The Reason I Built This Site
Ownership -- In a world where it seems like we rent everything I realized I needed to actually own my online store. I wrote every line of code for this site. I do not use pluigns or 3rd party aps (other than PayPal for payment processing). My goal was to make a fast, simple, and easy to use website, and I believe I have accoplished that.
Have you noticed that lately it seems like good old fashioned keyword search is broken? I have been selling on a some of the leading ecommerce platforms for a few years, and have also been an eBay Buyer since 2012. I am in the logging industry, and there are often expensive equipment failures. I have always turned to eBay and Google to find the parts that I needed in order to repair my broken equipment. In the past I would use keywords, part numbers, model numbers, Etc to search and I was able to quickly find what I was searching for. Not anymore. Lately it seems like all I get are irrelevant search results. I used to jump ahead a couple pages on Google to get past all the "sponsored" results, but now the page numbers are gone and I scroll and scroll and still cannot find what I am searching for.
In my opinion. The reason for this is that Search Engines and eCommerce platforms have sold their search to the highest bidder. Instead of your search results based on relevancy to the search keywords, now they are based on who has paid the most for those keywords.
I made this website in direct response to eBay's promoted listings program. No longer does having the relevant keywords in the title, excellent photos, and great service metrics determine your placement in the eBay search. Now placement is mostly based on who pays the highest promoted listings percentage rates. I built lonewolfheavyduty.com from the ground up. The "search engine" is a simple keyword search with a few filters that you can apply after the results are displayed. The results that are shown are ordered strictly by relevance to the search keywords entered or the filters applied. Its somewhat like an old fashioned mid 2000's Google keyword search. There is no annoying search suggest. 20 results are displayed per page, the results pages are all numbered and you can view results page by page or jump to whichever page you wish. Oh yeah and the browser's back button works great something that seems to be broken quite often nowadays as well.
